the couple

Paul and Hailey married 12 months ago in Korea, shortly before Paul transferred to Leeds University to continue his studies. As a memento of their first anniversary together and their time in Leeds, the couple got in touch with Photography Liverpool to organise a photo shoot. Between us we decided to shoot their photos like an engagement / pre-wedding shoot, focusing on the areas that meant something special for them, and having plenty of time of time to wander, explore and be creative. As the University was such a large part of the couples new life together, the grounds and buildings were an obvious place to start.

The UNIVersity

The University of Leeds, was established in 1874 as Yorkshire College, before being granted a royal charter by King Edward VII in 1904. The campus of 98 acres compromises a mixture of gothic revival, art deco, brutalist and postmodern buildings and the perfect backdrop for a photo shoot. Our walk started at the Laidlaw library, before making our way the Priory, from here we headed back to heart of student life and the Precinct via the imposing Roger Stevens Building. Just beyond the Precinct is one of the oldest building on the campus, the Great Hall and one that ties the University to its textile past via the adjacent clothworkers buildings.

Few locations, offer such a varied photographical backdrop with such a walkable distance as Leeds University

THE CITY

Leeds is a city close to my heart, although now living in the North West of the UK, both Yorkshire and Leeds have been a large part of my life. Knowing the city as I do, I was as eager as Hailey and Paul to explore and show them some of the city I knew. With the weather threatening, as it had all day, to turn at a moments notice we walked into the city and the Victorian quarter. Fortunately the weather held and as we walked, we were able to use the city as a backdrop & prop for lots of additional unplanned photos, many of which made it into our final set of photos. As always the Victorian quarter, didn't fail to disappoint and we were even able to use a baby grand piano.

THE PHOTOS

It is rare that I don't personally arrange to deliver the photos, but having used Folio Albums now for many years for prints and albums, I had no hesitation in arranging for Paul and Haileys photos being shipped direct. We were able to get there online album turned around quickly, and once shared, Paul & Hailey were able to pick their photos for printing, choose the colour of their keepsake box and wait for their beautifully wrapped and presented photos. Paul was so happy with their memento and photos, he sent us the photos below as soon as they were received.
