Wedding Photography FAQ

How would you best describe your style?

In essence, I don't dictate or direct but instead observe to discreetly cover events as they happen. I photograph your day as it naturally unfolds, capturing real moments and creating a timeless record of your day.

Black and white, what is your process?

I always photograph everything in colour and regularly provide couples with a full-colour gallery to site alongside their black and white and colour collection. With a typical collection of images, I tend to convert around 70% to black and white during the later stages of post-production. Just let me know your preferences upon booking or get in touch if you have questions about my processing or would like to see more work.

Do you have back-up equipment?

Yes, I always have at least two cameras and multiple lenses, it’s exceptionally rare that a technical issue occurs but in the event that it does, I’m covered!

How long have you been a wedding photographer and how many weddings do you shoot each year?

I've been a professional wedding photographer since 2009 and typically shoot between 20 to 30 weddings a year.

Should I add a second photographer?

Second photographers are ideal for weddings where there are more than 100 guests to ensure more consistent coverage of wedding guests is achieved. It's also useful to add a photographer when multiple locations are involved. An additional photographer can easily be added to any of the coverage options listed on the Wedding Photography Prices & Packages page.

How many images will we receive and do we get usage rights?

Image numbers largely depend on how much coverage you opt for in your package and whether you add a second photographer. During a typical full wedding day (bridal preparations through to the early hours), and with just me as the photographer, you will receive roughly 500 images. You are assigned full and unrestricted personal usage rights to print and share/distribute yourselves.

Do you do group photographs?

Documentary wedding photography doesn’t automatically rule out the group photos. Before your wedding, we will discuss the photos you want and put together a list prior to your wedding day.

Do you do posed couple portraits and if so, when?

Typically I’ll spend 5 to 10 minutes with couples during the first 15 minutes of their drinks reception. My portraits are simply a bi-product of a nice walk in a pretty environment. I don’t pose couples. Instead, I want these portraits to blend seamlessly with the documentary coverage. You can see examples of the sort of couple portraits I look to create in my portfolio. During the summer months, I may also take couples for a little walk later in the day during the golden hour, that magical light shortly before sunset.

Do you offer Engagement Shoots (aka Pre Wedding Shoots)?

Yes, I do. Roughly half my couples every year decide to add an Engagement Shoot to their wedding photography package. Rest assured these shoots are very relaxed and adhere to my documentary approach. The aim of the Engagement Shoot is to allow us to get used to working together prior to the day but to also help couples overcome any fears they have of being in front of the camera.

Look through my Engagement Shoot mini-folio to see the sort of images I look to create during these 45 to 60-minute location sessions.

Will you be photographing our wedding?

Yes, it will be me photographing your wedding, my name will be shown clearly on the contract between us. Read a little more about me here.

Are you fully insured?

I have full, professional insurance to cover every aspect of my wedding photography services.

Does it matter if you haven’t worked at my venue before?

No. If I haven’t worked at a venue before I factor in a venue visit on the morning of the wedding (or before) to familiarise myself.

How long after the wedding will the photographs be ready?

Your images are ready within 6 to 8 weeks following the wedding. I always aim to try and deliver them sooner than this if possible.

Where are you based and how far will you travel?

I’m based in the Merseyside town of St. Helens but most of my commissions involve wedding photography in the surrounding counties. I travel all over the UK and overseas.

Do your prices include VAT?

Yes, all wedding photography prices displayed are inclusive of 20% VAT.
