A Sunny sunday
After 15 or so weeks unable to get out and do what we love, this weekend we were treated to not one but two engagement shoots. Our second shot of the weekend was with the gorgeous couple which is Kelsey and Kevin. Following there initial enquiry, we had talked several times about location before settling on Liverpools garden jewel of Sefton Park.
Sefton park
In the late 19th century, Liverpool was considered to be the second city of the Empire, second only in status and grandeur to London. By 1862 demand was growing in South Liverpool for large aristocratic mansions, to house a new social class.
It was the area of Toxteth Park that the borough council identified for this grand re-development. Where once had stood nothing but green fields and woodland. Toxteth Park had rapidly grown to become a maze of narrow streets and courts, packed by tiny uninhabitable houses filed with cities stagnant air. In its place, the city planned a grand park, surrounded by suitable mansions for the cities newly rich & mighty.
The Park has had mixed fortunes over the years. It's crowning glory the three-tier dome conservatory known as the Palm House, had initially housed a rich collection of exotic plants. In 1941 a bomb exploded close by, shattering much of the glazing. Unfortunately, Sefton Park wasn't spared Liverpools' decline during the post-war years. Despite being reglazed in 1950, by 1982 the doors of the Palm House were closed due to safety concerns,
Renovations at the Park started in 1992 with a bid to save the Palm House. In the years that followed much of the Park was gradually returned to its former glory. It now designated at Grade I by English Heritage, in the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens and serves as a perfect photography backdrop.

We started out afternoon with Kelsey and Kevin at one of the quieter spots in the Park, the Fairy Glen. From here we walked up towards the Palm House and along the watercourse towards the Eros Fountain. Sefton Park is often busy, and on this Sunny Sunday was no exception. Yet no matter how busy the Park gets, its 235 acres ensure that plenty of quiet spaces can be found.
